YOGA

Yoga is a physical and spiritual discipline that comes from African and Hindu backgrounds. It is an ascetic practice that involves specific breathing techniques, postures/movement, and meditation.  It can be used as a holistic tool to aid the body, mind, and spirit with various issues including but not limited to anxiety, depression, fatigue, insomnia, muscle aches and cramps, posture, and stiffness in the body. To practice yoga is to practice self-love that honors the divine power within.

Yoga empowers individuals to take care of their physical wellness, ultimately positively transforming their mental and spiritual wellness. Yoga is a process of self-awareness, self-discovery, self-realization, and self-mastery. In the Sanskrit language, the word "yoga" means "connection" or "union". The individual practicing yoga is connecting to themselves, connecting to the divine, connecting to everyone and everything. Yoga doesn't discriminate, it doesn't choose sides, and it doesn't have an expectation. With focus and discipline, yoga can take an individual from where they are in the moment to where they want to be. Additionally, the individual needs to be patient with the process and trust the journey.

There are hundreds of different styles of yoga practices and techniques. There is a type of yoga for everyone.  (Check the list of yoga practices for more information.) Yoga is diverse and always changing. Yoga ranges from beginner to advanced to professional. Choosing the type of yoga and level is important as is choosing the right medium and instructor.
